For the first writing assignment, choose either the classical school or the positivist school of criminology and (1) describe the basic arguments the perspective makes (i.e., what did the classical/positivist school thinkers argue are the causes of human behavior and crime/delinquency). (2) Describe, in detail, at least one of the major theoretical perspectives to come from this line of thought. (3) Describe and provide examples of the types of policies that resulted from that theoretical perspective and whether they have been effective at reducing crime.
The information that you provide must be supported by the assigned reading material (i.e., the textbook chapters 1-6), and at least two other reliable sources (not Wikipedia). If you do not cite at least three sources of information points will be deducted. You must cite any of the material that you reference using the most recent APA format (APA 7: This is the website I suggest using for APA formatting guidelines: General Format // Purdue Writing LabLinks to an external site.) and your paper must have a references section (not included in the page count for the paper).
Requirements:
- Length: 3-5 pages (not including references or a title page).
- Font: use 12-point Times New Roman.
- The text must be double spaced.
- Use 1-inch margins.
- Citations must be formatted in accordance with APA 7
- You must have a references section (APA 7 formatting) that lists any material that you cite in the body of your paper.
- A title page is optional. However, if you choose to create a title page it should be consistent with APA 7 formatting. (The title page is not included in the paper length)
Note: Failure to adhere to these requirements will result in points being deducted.
